At G/L, we are serious about getting into the spirit for Halloween. In addition to booby-trapping the office with faux severed limbs and a candy bowl that terrorizes anyone who dares to sneak a Hershey’s Bar, each year we select a theme and show up to work dressed up in our own costumes. Some are clever, some are cute and some are just plain weird. This year we’d like to challenge our creatively-minded partners to participate in the festivities. (more…)

The 2013 Media Marketplace—An Opinion
Call me an optimist (or pessimist if you’re the one who has to buy media in a high demand marketplace), but my bet is that advertisers will encounter a rather robust 2013 marketplace, relative to recent non-election years. While I don’t have a crystal ball, there is a lot of recent news leading me to this conclusion. (more…)

If you follow our Facebook page, you may have seen images of my latest trade show adventure. Looking back, it’s not very often that people have such an amazing opportunity to travel halfway around the world, and I was excited about the invitation to join our client in South Africa.

Prufe Reeding
In just the last ten days, the topic of proofreading (or lack thereof) has surfaced over and over in my work and personal life. It has caused creative friends to lose assignments, clients to lose confidence and readers to lose the meaning of the written word.
Proofreading is typically left until the last minute. It is hard work, and it is not really much fun to do. Worse, it is undervalued a lot of the time.
Proofreading is not just finding typos, misplaced commas and verb/subject agreement issues. It’s about refining content as well. It’s about making sure the reader can clearly understand the message being sent. Anyone who has attempted to proofread knows it’s tough to do. (more…)
G/L’s Fuhrman: A Two-Step in the Right Direction
Jen Fuhrman is quickly becoming famous around the G/L agency. But, our newest G/Ler is doing it with a strategic style and something a little different than what you may have expected.
“I’m notorious for consistently clearing an office with a burnt bag of popcorn,” she says. The most recent Account Executive at St. Louis advertising and PR agency Geile/Leon Marketing Communications adds, “Every microwave is different.” (more…)

Why Is It So Damn Hard To Launch An Agency Website?
1. What was that saying about opinions?
Simply put, it’s hard to find anyone at an agency who doesn’t have their own ideas/vision for how to get the new company website to make it rain 7 figure accounts. What’s most important? Well, ask an AE, a CD, or a DD, and I’ll bet the farm you get 3 different answers. The copywriter is worried about the voice of the blog, your interactive AD just found a sweet new gallery plugin, the intern is worried about posting some beer-thirty pics in the culture section, and the new business guy wants…you guessed it…LEADS! Mix that with the digital department’s SEO, UX, UI, and other acronymic concerns—top it all off with that guy who says, “We’re just not telling the story enough,” and you have a real cluster on hand!
