In October 2010, Nidec Corporation purchased two major Emerson Motor Company businesses—Emerson’s Commercial and Industrial Motors (CIM) and Emerson Appliance Motors and Controls (EAMC).
The new Nidec Motor Corporation selected Geile/Leon to help achieve two important business goals:
- Raise the profile of its products in the U.S. and North America
- Manage its corporate reputation
During the past four years, we’ve developed and cultivated relationships with editors and writers at dozens of industry media outlets covering the engineering, motor, pool and spa, HVAC, packaging and agriculture industries. We pitched the right story to the right reporter to successfully place stories in target publications such as Pool & Spa News, Plant Engineering, The New York Times and Industrial Distribution Magazine, among many others.
In addition, G/L drafted more than a dozen Nidec bylined articles for publications including EmpoweringPumps.com, Appliance Design, Pumps & Systems, Machine Design, Water System Operator and Water Environment & Technology magazine.
Media relations and image management impact everything we do for Nidec. We develop an ongoing strategy for capitalizing on their appearances at trade shows. Our goal is to prepare the executives attending the show to be spokespeople with the media and trade association representatives. Being on-site at trade shows allows us to shoot customer and product-focused videos in the booth, which are used as content for the Nidec’s YouTube channel.
The second component of the PR plan focuses on managing Nidec’s corporate reputation. This involves creating a list of key local, national and international business and industry publications and identifying opportunities to promote Nidec’s successful business practices and position Nidec executives as thought-leaders on business or industry trends. Examples include “executive leadership” columns in Maintenance Technology and Players of Life magazine.
